About ZDSP

The Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP), funded by the Government of Zambia and the World Bank, is strengthening local governance and service delivery across the country. Through fiscal reforms and performance-based capital grants, the Programme empowers local authorities to plan, manage, and deliver services more effectively.

In Kanchibiya District, the ZDSP is driving real development through three key projects: the Construction of first ever Kanchibiya skills centre at Kasongo in Mumbubu ward. These initiatives are enhancing local infrastructure, improving community services, and supporting Kanchibiya Town Council’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance.

The program is being executed by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, with assistance from the World Bank. Eligible Councils are awarded capital grants, including a basic grant of $200,000 and performance based grants up to $500,000.

Key Results:

  • Improved access to public services.
  • Enhanced transparency and accountability.
  • Increased citizen participation in governance.
  • Strengthened institutional capacities of local authorities.

The ZDSP is scheduled to operate from 2022 to 2028, focusing on supporting the Government of Zambia’s decentralization agenda. By qualifying for the 2024 Devolution Support Program, Kanchibiya Town Council has secured a substantial grant of $655,562.57 (K15,733,501.68).  Community members have identified the projects according to their needs. The first of these is the Kanchibiya Skills Centre.
